Medical Staff Message to the Community

On behalf of the Medical Staff Executive Committee, we would like to recognize and congratulate the members of the Waterbury Hospital staff on the hospital’s recently awarded certifications for quality standards.

The Joint Commission awarded the hospital certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, acknowledging its dedication to providing stroke patients with the most appropriate treatment based on nationally recognized, research-based guidelines developed from the latest scientific evidence. The hospital underwent a rigorous onsite review, where a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with certification standards including timeliness of stroke treatment, compliance with stroke care guidelines, and stroke center organization and protocols.

The hospital also achieved Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), making it the only hospital in Connecticut to hold this accreditation. These are two accreditation accomplishments of the talented doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital. Other distinctions include those by Healthgrades and U.S. News and World Report for excellence in the treatment of conditions including stroke, heart attack, heart and kidney failure, GI bleed and pneumonia.

The Waterbury Hospital Medical Staff would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for its unwavering support. As your healthcare providers, we remain committed to providing the best care for you, our patients, as we have done for more than a century. Our medical team is here around the clock, working tirelessly to ensure you are cared for, and we are thankful for the trust you have placed in us.

Despite the challenges faced during and since the COVID-19 pandemic, including staffing shortages, premature staff retirements, supply chain issues, inflation, a cyberattack that impacted the entire hospital network, and increased regulatory scrutiny, the hospital remains focused on providing comprehensive care with the utmost compassion and support. We are dedicated to being an integral part of the community and are confident in a bright future for Waterbury HEALTH as part of Yale New Haven Health.
