Waterbury, CT – May 21, 2024 – Waterbury Hospital honored dozens emergency medical service during its Annual EMS Awards Banquet on Wednesday at Waterbury Hospital including Waterbury’s newest service Hatzalah Ambulance and Geralyn Hoyt, Southbury Ambulance Association Chief and longtime leader.
The annual awards banquet held during EMS Week recognized the outstanding contributions of our local emergency medical professionals. The event underscores the essential and dynamic relationship between our area EMS providers and Waterbury Hospital, which plays a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our community.
EMS professionals are often the first point of contact in emergencies, providing critical care and swift transportation to our facilities. This seamless partnership is vital for delivering timely and effective medical interventions, ultimately saving lives and improving patient outcomes.
May 19 - 25 is National EMS Week. As part of the week’s celebrations, we are proud to acknowledge the following award winners for their exceptional service and commitment:
- EMT of the Year: Sara Mulligan – Naugatuck EMS, Prospect FD
- Paramedic of the Year: John Racloz, Naugatuck EMS, AMR
- Educator of the Year: Madeleine Frew, AMR
- Telecommunicator of the Year: Peter Fegley, Northwest CT Public Safety Communication Center
- EMS Leader of the Year: Geralyn Hoyt, Southbury Ambulance Association
- EMS Agency of the Year: Hatzalah EMS of Waterbury
- Lifetime Achievement Awards: John "Jay" Lengyel, Dennis Posila
