WATERBURY HOSPITAL FIRST IN CONNECTICUT TO HOLD CHEST PAIN CENTER ACCREDITATION BY AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY

Published:

WATERBURY, Conn. – June 13, 2023 The American College of Cardiology has recognized Waterbury Hospital with Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

Waterbury Hospital is the only hospital in Connecticut to hold this accreditation delivering excellent cardiovascular patient care, including:

  • Faster treatment
  • Better prognoses
  • Better quality of life

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 730,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year.

Hospitals that have earned ACC Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention also known as angioplasty) Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating patients with heart attack symptoms and have primary PCI available 24/7 every day of the year.

“This accreditation is a testament to excellence in cardiac care that our teams provide patients. We’ve expanded services for cardiac patients in recent years and we’ll continue to build on this success,” said Dr. Justin Lundbye, President and CEO of Waterbury HEALTH.

In the past several years Waterbury Hospital has added services for cardiac patients including transaortic valve replacement and a major expansion of the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Center. Later this year we’ll be adding WATCHMAN Implant, a minimally invasive procedure for patients with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem who need an alternative to blood thinners.

Waterbury Hospital was ranked a high performing hospital for patients suffering from kidney failure, heart failure and stroke by the U.S. News & World Report 2022-2023 Best Hospital edition. Waterbury Hospital has distinguished itself for excellence in cardiac care including as 1 of 2 hospitals in the state of Connecticut to receive the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ and the only hospital in the New Haven area* to receive the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award™ in 2022 by Healthgrades.
